Hand Made Holiday Snow Globes

I bet you all thought I quit this blog!!!  Well, I did get kind of busy because now we are also parents to a beautiful little baby boy!  I still had some time to make some homemade snow globes to give out this year...here are a few of my favorites :)

A 1910-1923 Blue Ball Jar w/vintage cardboard "Made in Japan" snowman

Giant vintage jar, maybe a pickle jar?  Probably the biggest snow globe I've ever made!

Vintage ceramic deer in a cake dome.

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year!

Recent Ornament Wreath & Crafts

Yep the Happy Holiday Girl is still around and still loves the holidays!  I get so excited when August rolls around each year because that means that fall is just around the corner!  Summer is starting to wind down and I couldn't be happier about it!  Summer is my least favorite season.

I made a red and blue themed vintage ornament wreath recently.  It felt good to finish a major craft project (major for me anyways).  I just wait until our toddler goes to bed to work on my crafts because I do not like taking time away from her.  Plus, it would be difficult to craft with how busy she is.

I also had a Pinterest Challenge with some friends.  I called it a "Fun Summer Pinterest Challenge" and asked my friends to chose one pin and complete it within 2.5 weeks.  I have been collecting vintage buttons for a few years.  I have buttons coming out of my ears.  This has inspired me to get using some of my buttons since I have so many of them.  I chose to make vintage button flower pin brooches.  They turned out pretty cute but were a lot more difficult to make than I had imagined!  The most difficult part was finding a good jewelry glue with a fin point.  I still was not happy with the couple of different glues I purchased and if anyone has good recommendations for a craft or jewelry glue with a very fine point, I would like to hear about it!

To give credit to the inspiration.  This is where I was inspired to make my flower button pins.  And although I did not take pictures of the backs of my pins, they are covered in felt with a pin back so each flower can be put on a different coat.

Here is what my awesome friends and family came up with who particiated in my Pinterest event.  It was fun and next I plan on doing a recipe event!

Vintage Little Golden Book Holiday Purse

The hubby and I went to the Piper Barn show this weekend.  It is a holiday craft bazaar held in an antique barn.

Picture

While hubby sweetly packed baby girl around in the Ergo, I fell in love with this purse!  It was really difficult for me to chose between Frosty the Snow Man and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer but I kept with my gut and my first initial reaction of love to Frosty.  Love vintage Frosty!

The purse is made by a Portland, Oregon crafter called "Mugwump".  Here is what she had to say about her crafty business...Mugwump designs & creates handbags, wallets, & other fashion accessories using reclaimed/recycled materials.  They are given a renewed life - altered from their original intent.

Save the Earth & look good doin' it.

In particular, my bag is a vintage Frosty Little Golden Book, sewn, with a clasp closure and handle.  The sides and bottom of the purse are made out of some kind of vinyl material I believe.  Almost like the interior of a car.  The book has a weather proof coating on it for when its rainy or frosty outside!  Ha Ha, no pun intended!  She was also selling vintage album cover purses.  The cashier who processed my purchase had just bought the Bing Crosby White Christmas album purse!

Pumpkins...vintage buttons and vintage rick rack style !!!

I was really inpired by these photo from "All You" magazine.  Can I just give a big shout out to that magazine?  I love that magazine!!!

Photo: Use a variety of buttons to make each of these Button-Eyed Pumpkins unique (they're adorable stacked together or solo!). See more easy Halloween pumpkin crafts here: http://bit.ly/195mtwe

I dug out my vintage buttons I have been collecting for years.  I found some vintage rick rack at an estate sale recently.  We made our first outing to a local pumpkin patch with baby and family in tow.  We came home and made home made chili and decorated pumpkins for hours!  It was an awesome day to say the least.

Here is what we came up with....my vintage button collection took a big hit this Halloween.  Always on the look out for more.  We are going to save our buttons before we throw the pumpkins out so we can reuse them!

A few of my husband's pumpkins...which I just love!!!  He layered the eyes with huge vintage buttons of different sizes.

Mine again...it is difficult to see in pictures but most of my buttons are sparkly!

I made a great score recently on this HUGE pumpkin blow mold on the pedastal.  He was $5 at a local thrift store.  I was pretty excited to find him!
